Description
Our Mixed Blacks proprietary red blend is an old-world field blend containing Syrah, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Carignane. The varietals are mixed throughout a century-old vineyard on the Northern boundaries of Calistoga. The grapes are picked at the same time and co-fermented in stainless steel tanks; the wine is then aged in a combination of French and American oak for 16 months. A portion of this wine is allocated as a blending component of both our Old Vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. The balance (393 cases) was bottled for you! Our 2006 Mixed Blacks is a very approachable, medium to full-bodied wine that offers dark plum and raspberry jam aromas; the softly-integrated tannins combine with warm spices on the palate.

Vintage Notes
Our 2006 Mixed Blacks is a real “vintner’s stewâ€. The vines are planted in a field blend style with various Rhone varietal and Zinfandel vines interspersed throughout the vineyard blocks. The grapes are harvested at the same time and processed in a co-fermentation style with everyone jumping into the pool at the same time. The resulting product is a wonderful old-world field blend style wine that serves two purposes. Our 2006 vintage is a proprietary blend of Syrah, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Carignane.

Winemaker Notes
The grapes were hand sorted and crushed to stainless fermentors. Pumpovers were done as gently as possible so as to avoid unnecessarily harsh tannin extraction. Pressed at dryness directly to barrel, the wine was aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels.
