Description
The dark crimson color leads to an intense bouquet packed with black cherries, cassis, dried leaves, graphite and toasty oak. This is a surprisingly approachable wine that will drink well over the next five to 10 years.
Vintage Notes
Vineyard Notes
Secolo, meaning “century” in Italian, is our Bordeaux-style, blended red wine. Showcasing some of the best vineyards in Sonoma County it is known for intense aromatics, precise balance, great length and elegance. This 2008 features Cabernet Sauvignon from Cherryblock, Harp, Bedrock, McKenna, Rancho Miguel, Lyon, Robert Young, Garibaldi and Warnecke vineyards. It also includes traces of Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec.
Winemaker Notes
After crushing and de-stemming, all lots were cold soaked to liberate more color and tannin. Post fermentation, the wine was racked into mostly new French and Hungarian Oak barrels. Only a few tannic lots were egg white fined prior to barrel fill. Some of the lots were re-blended in late winter for better balance. The inclusion of Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec and Syrah provided additional aromatics, texture and complexity.
Tasting Notes
The dark crimson color leads to an intense bouquet packed with black cherries, cassis, dried leaves, graphite and toasty oak. The palate is lush with black fruit, blueberries, dried herbs, cocoa and espresso. The finish is soft, juicy and supple thanks to the Merlot and Malbec. This is a surprisingly approachable wine that will drink well over the next five to 10 years. ~ Mark R. Lyon, Winemaker
