Review 11/1/12:
“Soft and luscious, this has just enough
tannin and acidity to give structure to the
delicious black-cherry, cocoa and bacon
flavors. Drink now.”

Description
Our 2009 Alexander Valley Cabernet has lower alcohol and more finesse than the two previous warmer vintages. Oak in the background, with gobs of lush, concentrated blackberry and vanilla flavors framed by moderate tannins.
Vintage Notes
The 2009 season opened with a wet and cool winter and early spring. Although set was delayed into mid-June, mild weather led to an even set with full clusters of berries. Summer was cooler than normal with few, if any, hot days. Cluster and berry weights gained in August due to cool, foggy conditions. We had to thin some of the blocks in late August to guarantee vine balance for proper fruit maturity.
Vineyard Notes
Harvest Notes
. A hot spell the third week of September accelerated the ripening process, thankfully, and we started picking our first Cabernet block in the beginning of October. Mid-October rain necessitated the quick harvest of the remainder of Cabernet. Our finest Cabernet came from blocks with the most gravel.

Tasting Notes
The dark garnet color is a prologue to the procession of blackberry and black cherries in both the bouquet and palate. Forest floor and tea-like aromas, typical of Alexander Valley Cabernet, are also present. The oak is in the background, which allows the elegance and character of the region to shine through. The palate delivers gobs of lush, concentrated blackberry and vanilla flavors framed by moderate tannins. Overall, our 2009 Alexander Valley Cabernet has lower alcohol and more finesse than the two previous warmer vintages. ~ Mark R. Lyon, Winemaker
